Best HP Wireless DeskJet Printer Ever!!, August 21, 2011

I have been a Cannon Inkjet printer user for the last 10 years. For my light duty needs they performed fine until the last two purchases. The last two printers failed a couple of months after the warranty expired. That was the last straw with Cannon.

I have not looked into the line of HP DeskJet printers for more than a decade. I was very pleasantly surprised by the selection and prices. After reading as many reviews from every online source I could fine, it appeared that the recently discontinued HP DeskJet 3050 had good reviews and the new HP DeskJet 3050A model was starting to get good reviews also. After using my new printer for a while, I love it.

I was a little worried about setting up the wireless access part but the process could not have been any easier. In fact, the directions to set everything up was so short and simple, I thought HP forgot to include the full directions. But I followed the steps and Bingo; the printer was online and was working.

The printer has a small footprint, is quiet and it prints fast and with very good quality. The scanner works well but is a little slow scanning at higher DPI.

I do have one instillation note I wish to pass on…

My system is a HP notebook, Windows 7 64-bit, AMD processor, ATI discreet graphics, 4 GB RAM and it is wirelessly connected to my DSL modem. Even though the printer will start to work after you follow the steps to set it up, I had to restart my notebook after all of the drivers and software was installed to get full functionality. The restart step was not covered in the directions and not suggested during the installation of the software. However, since completing the installation, the printer has always connected to the network and has never dropped the connection.

Great printer for the price…, August 28, 2011

Bought it at Walmart because I needed it today (sorry, Amazon). Setup on a MacBook Pro is brain-dead simple. Insert the CD, start the install and plug in the enclosed USB cable, all according to the instructions. Went through the setup routine, which included wireless. Disconnected the USB cable and voila, I’m printing wirelessly. Changed the IP configuration from DHCP to static to prevent later problems, simple using the web management app. Scans JPG or PDF, also through a web app. Text isn’t as black as I would like, but it’s a $50.00 printer (at Walmart…) and I can live with that. The perfect printer for any student. Print, scan or copy. Since it’s new, I have no experience with the ink cartridge life, which other reviewers have complained about. I was apprehensive on buying it based on what I read in other reviews, but I thought that HP makes tens of thousands of this printer and my experience has been that HP is alalogous with printers. I still use a HP 990C that I have had for years and have no complaints about it. While your experience may vary, I do not think you will go wrong with this printer.

Customer Video Review Length:: 2:45 Mins

What follows is the text from most of the accompanying video review. There are, however, somethings that require more than the written word…

The SweetPea 3 is well thought out and nicely built. If ecology is important to you then you’ll be happy they used minimal packaging while still keeping everything safe and secure. I also liked that you can open the box with your bare hands. They did toss in a USB cable for loading music and I guess you can never have too many of those.

The player has a rubberized feel. It doesn’t make it any softer if your child chooses to use this as a weapon but it does provide a better grip when they’re using it to play music. While it is extremely durable it is not waterproof so you’ll have to take a bit of care around the pool or at the beach.

The front of the device has three buttons, a very nice speaker, and a clear (but unlit) display. When the player is powered on it displays the battery level, volume level, song number, playlist number, and status. There is no child accessible volume control.

Holding down the two outer buttons for six seconds brings up a menu that allows you, the adult, to select from three play lists (collections of songs or stories, set the volume for the speaker and headphones, and set other options.
The back of the player has the battery compartment, secured by a couple screws, and a convenient reminder about how to invoke the menu. The headphone and AC adapter jacks are on one side and the USB connector is on the other. Before you ask, the player will not recharge batteries the AC adapter is not included.

When you connect the player to a computer it appears as a disk drive with three folders representing the three play lists. You load audio by dragging the files (MP3, WMA, AAC, or OGG) into the folder of your choice. If you are connecting via a PC then you can also load audio books from [...].

The player comes preloaded with 11 songs and one story. Since I’m a lazy typist I’m providing them as a picture.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews, accompanied by detailed videos, can take the place of first-hand experiences that are often lacking in online shopping. I’ve always appreciated the help I’ve received from other reviewers and try to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and the video at least entertaining. If there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I’ll do what I can to fix it.

We purchased a SweetPea for each of our two grandsons. They’re pretty much indestructible (the SweetPeas… not the grandsons!), and perfect for small hands to carry. The SweetPeas come with some pre-recorded music, and offer the option of easily adding your own through a USB connection to your computer. In addition to uploading some of our favorite children’s songs, each of us took turns at reading our favorite children’s book (using our computer’s microphone and saving it as an MP3 file), then uploading it to the SweetPea. Even when we’re not there, the boys can hear Gigi and Grandaddy reading their favorite story to them. The exterior of the SweePea has a rubberized feel for easy gripping, and the hole/handle is a perfect size for little hands. Plenty of adult-accessible controls to customize the unit for your child’s specific needs (auto-volume control, auto-off timer, default directory selection). Our older grandson (4) could easily scroll through the song selection in the dark to find his favorite song.

Four thumbs up from these two VERY satisfied grandparents!

Perfect for 2 1/2 year old!, August 1, 2010

I recently purchased this mp3 player for my 2 1/2 year old son in an effort to help him leave my iPod alone. It worked! :-)

What I like best:

I can access the volume controls and playlists, but he can’t.
There are separate volume controls for headphone volume as well as general carry-it-around volume.
It was incredibly easy to transfer files from iTunes. Just copy and paste or drag. Love it!
It’s so easy for him to carry around! He carries it outside when we go on walks. He carries it in the car.
It has 2 GB of memory which is more than enough for a child of this age.
It only has 3 buttons for him to learn to control the music. It took no time at all for him to figure out how to access his favorite music.
It runs on one AA battery, and so far, the battery life has been great!
It automatically turns off after a short time, so the battery won’t run down. 2 year olds tend to lay things down and walk off, sooo..it’s a nice feature. :-)

What I don’t like:

The sound could be better. Yes, it’s an mp3 player for a toddler, BUT, it’s $50. It would be nice to have it sound a little better.

That’s all! Would I buy it again? Definitely! Would I buy it for a child over 5 or so? Probably not. I’d probably bump up to a sansa disk player or something similar.
